Super Simple Marble Cake

Deliciously soft vanilla and chocolate marble cake, only 15 minutes preparation time.

Ingredients:
225g butter, softened
225g caster sugar
225g self-raising flour
4 eggs
3 tbsp milk
2 tbsp cocoa powder

Prep time : 15 mins
Cooking time: 45-55 minutes

Step 1:
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Line a baking tray with parchment paper, or alternatively lightly grease the tray with butter or vegetable oil.

Step 2:
Add all your ingredients together, except the cocoa powder. Sift the flour so the cake is light. Mix well for a few minutes by hand or an electric whisk on a high setting. The batter should be smooth and silky, not too thick it doesn't run off the spoon, and not too liquid-y it cant hold peaks.

Step 3:
Separate half the mixture into another bowl and add the cocoa powder 1 tbsp at a time. Mix thoroughly.
You should now have two cake batters, one vanilla and one chocolate.

Step 4 :
Starting with the vanilla place a thin ,even layer (approx.1cm) at the bottom of the cake tin. Then layer the chocolate on top (this layer doesnt have to be even) and keep alternating the two batters until you run out.
Take a knife or skewer and gently swirl to get the marble effect until you are happy with how it looks.

Step 5:
Place in the oven for 45-55 minutes to bake. When a skewer is inserted it should come out clean, this means the cake is ready. Leave to cool for a while then enjoy!

Decoration/Serving Suggestions:

  • You could sprinkle some icing powder to finish it off, or make some butter icing.
  • Serve with come cream or chocolate sauce.

Good luck, have fun baking !
